SHAUN PARKER AND COMPANY

Shaun Parker & Company is one of Australia’s most far-reaching dance companies, having toured extensively to 23 counties across Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and theUSA.  Based in Sydney, the Company has delivered a range of award-winning dance theatre productions, outdoor festival works and transformative dance education programs. Shaun Parker & Company is renowned for its powerful, humanist, dance theatre productions, which have touched audiences across the globe, transcending borders and demographics.

Shaun Parker & Company has multi-year funding from Create NSW, and project funding from Creative Australia, City of Sydney, Inner West Council amongst others. SP&Co has a beautiful double space office in the Joynton Avenue Creative Centre in Zetland (Sydney), just several minutes’ walk from Green Square station.

 

Position Overview

Shaun Parker & Company are looking to extend our producing team with the creation of a new full-time Producer role.

We are looking for a vibrant, energetic and talented Producer who is looking to join us and grow with the success of the Company.

The Producer supports the Company’s artistic vision with strong producing skills to generate and deliver the Company’s repertoire of world-class work at a national and international level.

2024 will see the Company tour through regional NSW and perform in Metro & Western Sydney, as well as planning national & international tours for 2025 and 2026.It will also the see the first stages of creative development of three new dance works.

Directly reporting to our Artistic Director, the Producer is supported by a Project Co-ordinator, Bookkeeper, Graphic Designer and Production Manager (when in creation/touring mode), consultant publicist and consultant social media/marketing specialist all of which report directly to the Producer.  The Producer will also be supported by our European agent based in Germany.

 

Features of the role

  • Setting up tours of our innovative dance works on the national and international circuit.
  • Working with a creative arts organisation with established infrastructure and support including already-secured medium term funding, a diverse, experienced and supportive Board and staff committed to agility, pace, practicality and innovation.
  • Exposure to national and international networks, with international trips for touring, to arts markets, or like forums.
  • Working closely with our Artistic Director in the creation of new works.

 

Key responsibilities

Producing:

  • Identify, set-up, negotiate and produce Shaun Parker’s artistic works and tours (national and international).
  • Manage contract preparation, negotiation and execution associated with delivering the artistic works.
  • Develop and implement the Company’s national and international market development strategy in consultation with the Artistic Director.
  • Manage and inspire staff in the delivery of all projects and tours.
  • Manage project budgets for artistic works and tours.

Stakeholder and Public Relations:

  • Build and maintain relationships with presenters, stakeholders, partners and collaborators; cultivate and maintain relationships with national and international venues, agencies and festivals.
  • Maintain and build advantageous relationships with other organisations to enable partnerships that help meet and/or enhance the Company’s objectives.
  • Represent the Company at domestic and international arts markets, industry events and presentations as required.

 

Key Selection Criteria

The Producer should possess:

  • Extensive experience in producing and touring performing arts productions.
  • Expertise in project budgeting and financial management.
  • Expertise in negotiating contracts with artists, festivals and venue management.
  • Strong understanding of the technical aspects of theatrical productions.
  • Experience in developing marketing and publicity strategies and in briefing consultants.
  • Proven ability to identify and negotiate program funding opportunities in both government and private sectors, including strong project grant application writing skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively, in a fast paced, agile and small team environment.
  • A high level of autonomy, personal integrity and demonstrated good judgement alongside a positive, vibrant producing

 

Date of commencement: April/May 2024 Flexible – In consultation with successful applicant.

Contract:  Full-time yearly contract (with potential to extend).
